LIMF 2018 came to a spectacular conclusion on Saturday February 3rd with performances by British mask theatre experts Vamos, Holland’s Jakop Ahlbom Company, and the last night of a thrilling first visit to the UK by Belgium’s FC Bergman. (read the interview here >)
The festival’s fifteen companies played to packed theatres across London, with average attendance of 91% over the whole festival. All ten workshops were sold-out, leaving participants with new skills and insights into many different physical and visual theatre skills. The 250th anniversary of Phillip Astley’s invention of the circus ring was celebrated with circus-theatre productions from Fauna, Compagnie Mpta, Nacho Flores, Gandini Juggling and Betes de foire, plus a special screening of stunning 1925 German silent movie classic, Variety, accompanied by live music.
Our thanks go to the all the artists and technicians who made this one of the most outstanding festivals in LIMF’s forty-one year history, to our wonderful venue partners and their staff, to the LIMF team, to Arts Council England, to Institut français, to the Finnish Institute in London and our various other funders, and to the ticket buying public who supported us in such great number throughout the season.
LIMF 2018 has opened minds and eyes, has provoked, challenged and entertained. We’ll be back next year with more memorable experiences, artistic discoveries and surprises! Until then, find us on Facebook for events we think you’ll find interesting throughout the year, as well as upcoming festival news.
The LIMF 2019 programme will be announced online in late September – provisional dates are 9 Jan > 3 Feb.
