HTBAS is an essential foundation in theatre clowning for any creative person - performers, writers, directors and all those wanting to connect with their inner clown. Developed over 40 years, this is a practical, detailed and intense 10-day masterclass in creative intelligence which enables beginners and those more experienced to achieve a level of resourcefulness, honesty and playfulness that creates work unique to themselves. Working in a small group, giving participants more individual time and attention, the course refreshes the whole basis of theatre clowning in a safe environment. Drawing on decades as a theatre practitioner dedicated to the research and practice of clowning and performance, de Castro guides participants along their individual journey as a performer, creating a supportive world in which to explore and learn.

This is a creative and challenging 5-day course for more experienced clowns, performers who use clowning on their work and for those who have completed the HTBAS foundation. Using advanced exercises and working with other experienced practitioners, this course creates a safe and stretching environment. Through advanced techniques and challenging improvisation scenarios, de Castro creates a space within which performers can be supported and challenged to improve their ‘clown-fitness’. This advanced course focuses specifically on areas that are most challenging for the professional performer.
