Government Arts Rescue Package

WORKSHOP

At last some good news for the arts in the present crisis. Much better than expected news – the Government has listened to and been persuaded by the argument urged on it by leading spokespersons for our industry. Its funding offer is impressive.

As an annual theatre festival that relies entirely on building-based venue partners and a staff of freelancers to present the work of our wonderful artists, we are relieved and delighted. This is a time of unprecedented stress and real fear for the performing arts, for circus artists, puppeteers, opera stars and orchestral musicians alike. The financial rescue package is a substantial lifeline, but also a very public commitment to the value of the arts in our culture. There is now reason to be hopeful, and we are happy to give thanks where they are due.
