Following Dark Circus, their big top cowboy melodrama at LIMF 2016, Romain Bermond and Jean-Baptiste Maillet return with this latest handmade mini-spectacle.

Stellaire is a love story unfolding through space and time, set in a magic-lantern world.

Using paper, chalk, charcoal, sand, silhouettes and projection, these two virtuoso visual artists create wondrous cartoon-theatre that literally emerges before your eyes. Be propelled into orbit, wonder at the mysteries of the universe and stars. The Stereoptik duo’s gentle live music accompaniment highlights the enchanting astral romance.

Romain and Jean-Baptiste met as members of a brass band. Since creating their first show in 2008 their work has been enjoyed across the world.

“The imaginative use of everyday objects, the occasional beauty of the projected imagery and the intelligent ways in which images are layered and merged make it endlessly compelling. Being able to see the performers skilfully manipulate the various objects to create these moving images without doubt heightens the audience’s sense of awe. And the score elevates it all into a full-on sensory experience” Plays To See (on Dark Circus)

“With every shift in the sound comes a shift in the art: another roll of the paper on which landscapes unfurl, another twirl of the marionettes and another flick of paint to make our greyscale world glow Technicolor”

Exeunt (on Dark Circus)

“The variety of methods and artistic styles Stereoptik employed was astonishing and their practical and creative ability was exceptional. Bermond and Maillet are two seriously talented guys”
